Hierographx is proud to announce that EmilyKate Lorenz, Director of Online Services, was selected to serve on the judging panel for the 2024 Horizon Interactive Awards, an international competition recognizing excellence in web design, digital media and user experience.
With a Bachelor of Science in Multimedia Design and Development and a career that spans both creative direction and strategic leadership, Lorenz brought a well-rounded perspective to the panel. Her role focused on the Best in Show category of the competition, where she joined a select group of experts to evaluate standout entries across multiple website categories, including government, education, photography and small business.
“Judging this competition was inspiring,” said EmilyKate Lorenz, the Director of Online Services. “It wasn’t just about picking the prettiest site; it came down to technical performance, creativity, clarity of message and whether the site actually delivered results for its audience. Some entries really pushed the boundaries in their field.”
The Horizon judging process includes a multi-tiered evaluation based on five equally weighted criteria: UX/design, creativity, technical performance, message clarity and overall effectiveness. Lorenz’s hands-on experience in full-service digital production gave her unique insight into how sites performed from both a user and business standpoint. The experience wasn’t just professionally validating; it also sparked ideas.
“There was a city tourism website that blew me away. We ended up using some of its structural strategy as inspiration for a client project weeks later,” Lorenz added.
Horizon Interactive’s judging panel varies yearly and is made up of peers and end-users across the digital media industry, offering a balanced and diverse review of entries worldwide. The competition is fully digital and receives submissions from agencies and designers across the globe.
